Tauper, I have successfully done this on Mandrake 8.1 and it seems like you have left out a step.
To ensure that all symbols are correct (I take it your kernel uses symb. ver.) you need to have the correct System.map file. Small note on Mandrake: it seems that on bootup the symlink from System.map to System.map-<kernel version> is alsways created. I don't know where this is in the boot scripts, but to solve the problem I just copied the new version of the System.map (/usr/src/linux/System.map) to /boot/System.map-<vesrion> HTH, Hugo.
