Hehe, no worries about the advice :)

As for the mixer controls, do you mean in KDE? If you do, run kmixer and set
up all of your levels. Then, save them as deault, and log out of KDE (don't
do the Ctrl-Alt-Backspace way!) and then check the box that says "save
session for future use", and when you load KDE again the sound should be
restored to your settings.

I think the other way (i.e. it appears to work!) is to run alsamixer, and
set up your levels there.

Then run "alsactl store card0", which saves the setup in /etc/asound.state.
I'm pretty sure that's correct, but typing "man alsactl" should show what it
can do.

If you put the command "alsactl restore" in your rc.local file, it should
restore your settings each time you boot Linux.
