Hey all,

I've got a problem that I'm hoping someone has figured out.

I'm attempting to get the sound to work on a Dell Precision 530 workstation
that has an Intel 860 chipset with an AD 1885 sound chip.

The intel8x0 driver loads fine, but all I get out of the speakers is a
low-volume "thump".

It appears that this exact question was asked before, according to the
archives: (http://www.geocrawler.com/archives/3/12350/2002/2/150/7871743/)
...but I didn't see a response from anyone.

Interestingly, I was having problems with the built-in kernel 810 driver
until I upgraded to v.2.4.18. The 2.4.18 changelog contains a mysterious
line that says only this:

- i810 sound driver update (Doug Ledford)

...whatever Doug did, it seems it fixed the problem on the 860 sound
chipset.

Anyone have an idea?

-brian
