Hello,

I try to record sound with my soundblaster vibra 16C card.

Before upgrading to SuSE Linux 8.0 professional everything
worked fine, presumbly due to the old kernel alsa 0.5
combnation.

With the new packages (kernel 2.4.18, alsa 0.9.0) the card
plays fine, but doesn't record properly.

Tools like rec, brec, brec_gram (gramofile) do record
garbage. It sounds like every nth sample is missing from the
recording. This gives something like a fast forward sound :-|

The arecord tool records, but suffers from many xrun
problems, which it didn't do before.

I tried new rpms from the suse ftp server, but with them the
sb16 module fails to load with a 'no such device' error
during an alsaconf run.

I need instructions how to properly return to the working
state (as in SuSE 7.3) now, suitable for a non-expert.

Any recommendations?

Cheers,

* André
