This reminds me of something I noticed on the Alsa webpage:

"N.B. The 0.5.x series is considered deprecated and is no longer
supported by ALSA developers"

Far be it from me to tell the ALSA developers what to support and what
not to, but it seems like a bad idea (from an advocacy point of view)
to not support the officially "stable release" in favor of the
"development release" which still technically hasn't been released (it's
still in candidate). It seems to me that this would be like the Linux
kernel developers declaring that Linux 2.4 is deprecated and that they
won't offer support for anyone not using the 2.5 development kernels...

That's just my opinion, and I could be wrong...
