Unfortunately, I just don't think it's supported. I've posted on this
list and (I think) on alsa-devel before. I've gotten a number of
suggestions. Bill Allen made the same suggestions to me as he did to you
and Takashi Iwai suggested changes to modules.conf concerning the address
of the opl3 port. But nothing ever worked for me :-(

If I didn't load soundfonts, I heard no audio at all. pmidi would remain
silent for the length of the file. If I loaded soundfonts, then pmidi
would complain when I tried to then play a midi file.... (I can give the
exact error when I get home tonight, hopefully... I just don't have
access to the machine at the moment).

I posted my problems, but never got a response.

Also, while I'm posting, I think I should point out that the ymfpci cards
don't appear to be listed at:

http://cvs.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/*checkout*/alsa/alsa-driver/doc/SOUNDCARDS?rev=HEAD&content-type=text/plain

I'm pretty sure that they were listed in there at one point.
