Hi. I used to use emu10k1 sound driver for my Red Hat Linux 7.2 box. I
tried to upgrade it to today's newer drivers from 12/2001 drivers set
(couldn't use Red Hat's emu10k1 because it kept locking up my computer so
I upgraded to 12/2001 emu10k1 drivers) I used for months. However, make
install failed and I broke the audio driver. I should have not upgraded
when it was fine, huh (was hoping some improvements ;))? :P

I no longer have the old package to downgrade. Right now, I am audioless
in Linux so I can't listen to MP3s, play games (e.g., Q3A and RTCW), watch
DVDs/video clip/filess, etc. I am about to give up with emu10k1 because I
am not getting anywhere in getting it fixed and no one seems to know how
to fix my problem. You can read my thread:
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=575571&group_id=44773&atid=440823
if you are interested.

Someone told me that I should try ALSA sound driver. Is this a good move
for my situation? If so, then what's the proper way to remove emu10k1 and
install ALSA? I did not see a Howto guide nor RPM files. Please note that
I am a Linux newbie. I am using Red Hat Linux 7.2 with the default Kernel.
Here's uname -a: Linux ANTux-P3 2.4.7-10 #1 Thu Sep 6 17:27:27 EDT 2001
i686 unknown. I am also using a SB Live Platinum (4.1) without its
LiveDrive and Klipsch ProMedia 4.1 (sound is important ;)). I assume ALSA
has controls for bass and treble like emu10k1 (I think this was another
reason why I upgraded from the one from Red Hat in 12/2001).

Thank you in advance. :)
