I got this error on start up of KDE Red Hat 7.2 also.... I found that I could still play music cds though. I finally removed the sound drivers installed by sndconfig in Red Hat and installed the Alsa sound drivers and this error vanished. I was using a cs4236 Crystal Semiconductor sound card in a Dell Precision 210. The cs4236 alsa module from the 0.9rc1 release worked fine. Chris
