Hello,

I have installed alsa-0.9rc (without oss) and drivers for the rme9652
and trident cards and set up modules.conf. Both card are loading without
any problems, though surprisingly not on demand but only manually.

The trident card is working fine, however the hammerfall is not. I also
fetched the asoundrc from opensrc.org (and loaded it with alsactl) which
brought no differences.

"aplay" does pretent to play, though I am not able to hear anything,
probably because all mixers are muted by default.
Calling "alsamixer": no mixer elems found.
How to unmute without any mixer ? Again, no difference wether asoundrc
is loaded or not.

Calling "amixer" does not have an output at all,
whereas with the trident card, it shows me all the mixeroptions.
Basically, I'd be happy if I got the spdiff in/out working, the only
jacks connected right now anyway.

Worse, esound even refuses to start (has been compiled with alsa
support, of course). Especially the "sound device inadeqate for esound"
scares me - esd incompatible with hammerfall ?
As "lsof | grep snd" shows, aplay is able to access the sound devices,
so they can't really be busy. Even after a fresh boot esound claims them
to be busy.
Right now I only intend to use for audio playback (xmms, mplayer & co).
Will change later, but I'd be really happy about the first step -
repectively understanding on how to work with it, routing "default"
output to a certain jack and controlling from wich jack to record.

In case I have overseen any documentation that could cover my problem,
I'd be glad about a hint and read it, but right now I am a bit clueless.

All tried as root on a devfs system (gentoo)

Finally, several outputs for your reading pleasure :)
