I am having strange problems with this one motherboard that has an ALI AlladinIV+ chipset. I have an MAudio DIO2496 and also an RME 9652 and have had no problems getting them both working under ALSA on several machines.
On the ALI machine, however, I get some very strange behavior. With the RME9652, when the machine is booting, a DAC attached to the spdif outputs has it's "lock" light on. Once the snd-rm9652 module is loaded the lock light goes out! When using aplay to play back a wav file, aplay looks like it is playing but it actually hangs. When I hit ctrl-C to cancel the playback, I get "ALSA lib pcm_hw.c:413:(snd_pcm_hw_drain) SNDRV_PCM_IOCTL_DRAIN failed: Input/output error" With the ice1712 card I get no indications there is anything wrong but I get nothing but zeroes when capturing and no sound when playing back. I of course have the proper plughw pcm entries in .asoundrc routing the channels to the spdif interfaces and setting the volume to 100%...
