Hello all,

As I have had no replies whatsoever to my problem with the AWE card, I am
trying to get the onboard VIA chipset working.

Having enabled it in the BIOS, I can load the module, but it seems not to
work :

/etc/modules.conf :
alias char-major-116 snd
alias char-major-14 soundcore
options snd snd_cards_limit=1 snd_major=116
options snd-via686 snd_index=0
alias snd-card-0 snd-via686
alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0
alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss

lsmod :
Module Size Used by
snd-via686 7456 0 (unused)
snd-pcm 57952 0 [snd-via686]
snd-timer 12528 0 [snd-pcm]
snd-ac97-codec 24656 0 [snd-via686]
snd-mpu401-uart 3360 0 [snd-via686]
snd-rawmidi 14656 0 [snd-mpu401-uart]
snd-seq-device 4240 0 [snd-rawmidi]
snd 32224 0 [snd-via686 snd-pcm snd-timer
snd-ac97-codec snd-mpu401-uart snd-rawmidi snd-seq-device]
soundcore 3600 0 [snd]

/var/log/messages :
May 19 11:41:15 client kernel: PCI: Found IRQ 9 for device 00:07.5

cat /proc/asound/cards :
--- no soundcards ---

??? What am I doing wrong now?

Martyn
