Hello,

I'm working with a fresh install of Slackware 8.0 (kernel 2.4.18), and KDE 3
slack packages from ibiblio, on a Dell Inspiron 7500 laptop, and a Maestro
es1968 card inside. Sound used to work just fine, until i formatted and
re-installed..

When i recompiled the kernel, i made sure to turn sound support on. I also
tried compiling in the appropriate code for the Maestro card directly into
the kernel, as a module, and without entirely.

Each of the 0.9.0rc1 packages configures and installs clean. I've run the
/dev config script, and modified my /etc/modules.conf in a number of ways
according to the documentation.

Yet, the only thing that i get out of any sound app is: "Can't open /dev/dsp!"

Does anybody have any ideas? It's driving me nuts!
