That's not quite what the alsamixer(1) manual page says:
BUGS
Some terminal emulators (e.g. nxterm) may not work quite
right with ncurses, but that's their own damn fault. Plain
old xterm seems to be fine.
It definitely is a bug, just apparently not in alsa. I get the same
problem, also with konsole. Workaround: "TERM=vt100 alsamixer" works,
though not in color. Running from the console works fine. You might try
upgrading Konsole and/or ncurses.
