Greetings, amorphous cloud of alsa wisdom! I used alsa 0.5.x and it suddenly *stopped*. So, I took the opportunity to upgrade the kernel to 2.4.7-31(smp) and give alsa 0.9.0rc1 a go on my RedHat 7.2 box. Please note - the OSS driver does work, so I know this is a working system.
So far, so good. Then comes the dreaded 'insmod snd-opl3sa2' step. (BOOM) Hung machine. Argh, makes my spleen explode too, what with that hideously old 9GB SCSI drive and a 5-minute fsck! My configure options: ./configure --with-kernel=/usr/src/linux-2.4.9-31 --with-oss \ --with-moddir=/lib/modules/2.4.9-31smp --with-isapnp=yes First modules.conf: #ALSA stuff options isapnp isapnp_reserve_irq=9,10,11,12,13 options snd snd_major=116 snd_cards_limit=1 alias char-major-116 snd alias char-major-14 soundcore options snd-card-0 snd-card-opl3sa2 alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0 I've then tried various exotic combinations trying to get the problem resolved. Anybody have a clue as to what could be the problem? This has to be a newbie thing, but I searched the archives. Maybe I should try adding '--rupture-spleen=off' to my ./configure -;^>= #1) What am I doing wrong to lock the machine? #2) Do I really have to disable the sequencer with 0.9.0rc1 on RH7.2? _______________________________________________________________ Have big pipes?
