I just installed the ALSA 0.9.0beta12 drivers, along with the
0.9.0beta12 libraries, utilities, and tools, and the0.9.0betat11 OSS
compatibility libraries, and I'm having a problem.

Each time an application, such as XMMS or alsaplay, takes control of the
sound device, there is a rather loud click. This happens at the
beginning and end of each mp3 song with XMMS, and at the startup of
alsaplay. I did not see this behavior with the standard audio driver
distributed with the Linux kernel.

Is this a characteristic of ALSA 0.9? Is it likely that I would be
better off with 0.5? What would be causing this with ALSA, but not with
the standard driver?

I am running RedHat 7.2 with a 2.4.19pre5 kernel on a Dell Inspiron
4100, with a 1.2/.8GHz Pentium3 Mobil, with the 830M chipset. The sound
card is an Intel 810, presumably the one included in the 830M chipset.

Thank you!
