    I believe this is a timing problem in device initialization, and has
been fixed since 0.9.0beta10. I'm not familiar with the debian packages,
so I'm not sure right off hand what the newest debian release is. But
anyway, try loading the "cs46xx" driver, then unload it, then load the
"snd-card-cs46xx" module. For me, at least, it seemed the "cs46xx" driver
leaves the card in a more "stable" (not quite the right word, but it fits)
state than "snd-card-cs46xx", and when you re-load "snd-card-cs46xx" driver
the card should respond more quickly, within the timing of the old alsa
cs46xx driver.
