Hello.

I have freezing problems when trying to use the Alsa drivers with my
computer, a Dell Latitude with a Neomagic 256AV chip. I have tried many
different distributions and different versions of Alsa since
0.5something and I alway get a solid lock up.

I used to get the same error with the OSS drivers, but it was solved by
patching the kernel removing the line 899, which is:

nm256_writePort8 (card, 2, 0x6cc, 0x87);

and apparently initialises the mixer.

Is there any solution for Alsa? I have looked in the archives and tried
to set the top end of the buffer in memory, but so far I have had no
luck whatsoever.

I want to use kernel 2.2.20 as only 2.2 series kernels are supported by
my version of VMWare.

Please, reply to me on this address, as I have not joined the list.

Thanks very much

Gabriel
