hello

whenever i do something that intensively uses an ide device (read cds with
cdda2wav or starting up konqueror even) i get skips in sound playback (via
mpg123) and sometimes the system slows down significantly too.
i had the same problem with an old gigabyte board with kt133 chipset. after a
bit of research i blamed the via bug this chipset is popular for, so i bought
a new board with kt266a plus new ddram, but i am still getting skips.

my question is: who's to blame?

1.the sound card's driver (alsa 0.9 beta10)...?
2.the chipset's (kt266a) driver in the kernel (2.4.16 - suse kernel)....?

if 1. : is this bug fixed in the beta12 release?
if 2.: will the chipset driver ever be updated (kt333 or what' it's called is
already on the go...)?
do i have to recompile the kernel for some extra feature adding proper
support for the via kt266a chipset?

if any: does anybody know if one can tweak bios parameters to solve this kind
of problem?

a hardware bug it is unlikey since i have tested the system with an m$
windows install + corrcet drivers and it worked fine...

i'm keen on what you think about this.

thanks
stefan
