Hi. I'm having weird problems with the ALSA drivers. I'm Running linux-2.5.5 with beta11 drivers for an ISA SB AWE32 (isapnp support).
First, I only got repeating noise (random clicks and stuff) which implied an IRQ problem as well as the more obvious erronous data problem.. Then, after doing non-alsa-related things for a while(*), it suddenly went silent. I played around with amixer and *cheer* the sound worked.. Then I unloaded the modules and tried to modprobe them again, which resulted in the "silent mode" again. No matter what I do with amixer, there's no sound at all... ((*) I unplugged my USB mouse and plugged in an old serial mouse as I had to send it away for replacement as it's got cable-problems.) Now, after reading a bit on the archives of this list, I saw something about USB interfering with ALSA, so I unloaded the USB modules, and now I get white noise instead of silence... Any ideas? (This is the first time I've tried my hand on ALSA, so don't assume I know anything about alsa.. I do have reasonable experience with linux in general though...) Following is some info on my setup. If you need to know more, don't hesitate to post... :) Thank you in advance, Christer Kaivo-oja ***** From /etc/modules.conf # ALSA Stuff alias char-major-116 snd alias snd-card-0 snd-sbawe options snd-sbawe snd_index=0 snd_id="SBAWE" snd_isapnp=1 #OSS/Free alias char-major-14 soundcore ***** /proc/asound info # cat /proc/asound/cards 0 [SBAWE ]: SB AWE - Sound Blaster 16 Sound Blaster 16 at 0x220, irq 5, dma 1&5 # cat /proc/asound/pcm 00-00: SB16 DSP : DSP v4.16 : playback 1 : capture 1 # cat /proc/asound/sndstat Sound Driver:3.8.1a-980706 (ALSA v0.9.0beta11 emulation code) Kernel: Linux trollcave 2.5.5 #1 Mon Feb 25 05:26:47 CET 2002 i686 Config options: 0 Installed drivers: Type 10: ALSA emulation Card config: Sound Blaster 16 at 0x220, irq 5, dma 1&5 Audio devices: 0: DSP v4.16 (DUPLEX) Synth devices: 0: OPL3 FM Midi devices: 0: MPU-401 (UART) Timers: 7: system timer Mixers: 0: mixer00 # cat /proc/asound/devices 0: [0- 0]: ctl 4: [0- 0]: hardware dependent 8: [0- 0]: raw midi 16: [0- 0]: digital audio playback 24: [0- 0]: digital audio capture 33: : timer _______________________________________________ Alsa-user mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/alsa-user
