I compiled and installed ALSA 0.5.12 against a 2.4.17 kernel. VIA686 chipset. Problem is - when I try amixer in order to unmute, I get:
[Tue Feb 19] edj:~$ amixer set Master 80% unmute amixer: Mixer 0/0 open error: Invalid argument No matter what argument I try - amixer groups, etc, same error. Only ones that work are --help and --version: [Tue Feb 19] edj:~$ amixer -v amixer version 0.5.10 I followed directions in editing /etc/modules ( I think), and sorry to post so much, but if someone could go over the following, I'd appreciate it. Something's misconfigured.
