Folks,

I have a DSP only soundcard (RME 9636). This card has no on-board
mixer, so I can not control it's volume by way of a mixer, ie alsacrtl,
alsamixer, aumix ect. However I am able to control the volume when
using AlsaPlayer, and the gain using the equilizer functions in Xmms.
I assume this is done by software control rather then hardware.

My question is twofold:
        1) Is there a software mixer that I can use to do this for my
whole system as it does in alsa player? In
other words a mixer that I could control the volume across the card.
        2) I can control the volume in XMS using the equilizer, sort
of. There is a 3 second delay before the change
and of course it starts at gain +-0 rather than a volume of 0. Why the
delay, and is there a plug in that I can get that
will allow mw to control the volume using the volume slider?

If there is no solution already I might be able to write a plug-in for
XMMS or write an equilizer using the AlsaPlayer as a basis, but I'd
like to avoid this a s I am new to C.

My situation is that I am trying to use my computer as a front-end AND
pre-amp sending my card into a D/A copnverter and then into an amp.
However this amp will soon be 8 channels at 400 watts per channel. If I
can not control the volume a t all times, my trailer may not
survive...:)

Thanx for all your help,

Bearcat
