This is probably not much help either, but this card works quite well in my setup. Haven't tried SPDIF at all though. The only problems I had were with the first beta10 versions. I had to use version 0.9.0beta10a of the library and the utilities because otherwise they wouldn't compile (for some reason I don't recall, but this is probably not the problem you face, anyway). I'm using SuSE 7.3 with the developer tools that come with the distribution (on an Athlon 700, NMC board with VIA KX133 chipset).
