Hi, I'm fairly new to Linux and x86 hardware in general so I'm probably missing something really obvious but having played with it on and off for a few months I still cannot get the alsa driver to work on my setup. I've looked in the FAQ and the user list archives and although there are a few similar problems, I have not found any solutions.
I have been trying to install version 0.5.12a of the driver, using emu10k1 to drive a Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live! 1024 card. I can now (apparently) sucessfully configure, build and install the driver and insert the modules, however although all seems well it stubbornly refuses to do anything. Running amixer I get the error amixer: Mixer 0/0 open error: Sound protocol isn't compatible and aplay Aplay: version 0.4.1 by Jaroslav Kysela <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Error: audio open error: Sound protocol isn't compatible I would be very grateful if someone here could give me some clue as to what I might be doing wrong and how to remedy the situation.
