hi,

well, i've struggled, that much is for certain. I've read
through countless tales of problems.

Mine isnt 'too' bad... but heres the issue:

I have

Kernel 2.4.17
alsa-driver-0.5.12a
alsa-lib-0.5.10b
alsa-utils-0.5.10

Following the instructions I got a system where alsaplayer-0.99.52
was able to play beautiful audio through the soundcard! success! :-)

trouble is? OSS doesnt want to know at all :-(

I need to use OSS (as things like XMMS dont work - i've tried the ALSA
plugin but that doesnt want to play with the latest ALSA-drivers :-( )

heres my /etc/modules.conf by the way:

#ALSA Native device support
alias char-major-116-snd snd
alias snd-card-0 snd-card-ens1371
post-install snd-card-ens1371 /usr/sbin/alsactl restore

# OSS/Free setup
alias char-major-14 soundcore
alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0
alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss

one thing i DO note is that i get the following error when doing
'modprobe snd-pcm-oss' (in my dmesg output)

snd: unable to register OSS mixer device 0:0
snd: unable to register OSS PCM device 0:0

can anyone give me the final little push i need?

Alan
