I have a ens1370 card. With kernel 2.4.3-20mdk (Mandrake 8.0) and alsa 0.5.11 I had absolutely no problems. Now I have compiled and installed a standard 2.4.17 kernel. I recompiled the alsa drivers, and the libs and utilities, and installed all. Kernel modules are loading properly, but amixer, alsamixer and alsactl all refuse to run - "alsamixer: failed to open mixer #0/#0: Invalid argument" Aumix does work to a point; I was able to raise volume and pcm, and I get good playback - but no recording. After a reboot levels are all back to zero, as alsactl won't run. I've checked everything in /proc/asound, and cannot see anything wrong. Any ideas? Anybody have alsa 0.5.11 working with kernel 2.4.17?
