Yes, so it should be ok.
ALSA, joydev and gameport don't show any message but only grip (in my
case analog) will show something.

Could you check another joystick device driver instead of grip?
I tested one on my system and it works fine with analog module.

Or please check whether kernel's esssolo1 driver works with that
combination.
