Hi!

I am using Debian Woody on a laptop with kernel 2.4.16. It has a built
in Intel AC'97 sound so it uses the Intel8x0 driver.

I can get sound to work fine in 'play' 'mpg123' and even in dvd's using
vlc.

The problem I have having seems to be with the esound daemon, esd.
Whenever esd tries to load, I get the following error repeatedly:

"Couldn't open any alsa card! Error opening card 0; Sound protocol is
not compatible"

The esound version is 0.2.23.

Is there a fix for this problem?

Thanks!
Francis
