I have a Yamaha 724F running the YMFPCI driver. I've been using ALSA quite a while on this machine, and I just love the advantages it offers.
Sometimes, while playing a sound, there's a "pop" at the end of the sound. Such as licq: "Uh-oh. pop." Or, "Message for you sir. pop." This happens both with the OSS emulation and with the native utilities (play and aplay), but more frequently with OSS emulation. It's not the files, either, since they sometimes play without the popping noise. I've never noticed this on MP3 playback using OSS emulation or native drivers, however. Alsa-driver-0.5.12, alsa-lib-0.5.10b, alsa-utils-0.5.10 Linux 2.2.19, running Slackware 8. KDE 2.2.1, but play and aplay bypass the arts driver.
