Can you be more specific?

Do you mean it works in doze?  Is it the speaker connected to your
soundcard that you bought with your computer (external speakers) or the
pc speaker which is usually inside the computer and makes annoying
beeping sounds at inopportune moments which forces most people to rip it
out and jump on it?

What do you type for aplay? 

If you turn up the speaker to max do you hear any noises?
