Hi,
I have a similar problem.
Do you use the oss emulation or alsa drivers when you are using mpg123 ?
If you use alsa, it will open your device (ie your soundcard) and it will not 
allow other application to use it simultaneously.
Arts or esound, which works with oss emulation, allows multiple opens on a 
same device, maybe it will help you.
