This is a bug with the recent kernel version (2.4.15-pre or later). It's already fixed on cvs (well, yesterday:) Please get sources via cvs. The ALSA 0.5.x branch is named ver-0-5-patches, so you need to pass -rver-0-5-patches option to cvs. Unfortunately there is no cvs snapshot for ALSA 0.5.x.
