FWIW, i had similar problems with 0.9.0beta7, whereas beta's 4,5, and 6 all worked fine. finally i installed beta8a and everything's working again.
before getting beta8a to work, i tried cleaning and installing various 0.9.0beta's, looking for one that would work after the failure with beta7. for some reason, downgrading to previous beta's was problematic, and unless i removed /usr/include/sound by hand, beta4 and 5 wouldn't even compile, although they had worked fine prior to the first install of beta7. in the process discovered some strange behaviour with the /usr/include/sound directory. under at least one install, it was symlinked to the header files in the alsa-driver directory; in other installs, all the header files were actually located in /usr/include/sound. don't know if it's related to your problem with beta7 though. my advice: get beta8a ;-) my system: kernel 2.4.0, hammerfall > Message: 5 > Date: Tue, 30 Oct 2001 16:21:14 +0000 > From: Fergus Reid <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To: alsa-user-list <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Subject: [Alsa-user] aplay with alsa0.9.0 beta 7 > > Hi, I've managed to install 0.9.0 beta 7 but when I now aplay a file > that played okay previously with 0.5.11 it just plays out as white > noise.
