Seriously, do not use pop3.

Why not?

I don't mean my question as a challenge, and my fetchmail fetches from
IMAP already. I'm just curious what is bad about POP3.

I do not see any reason to use ancient pop3. Anything can be done using imap, which was designed to solve previous caveats.
