I had the same reaction and couldn't figure out why, my best guess is that
-er to -or suffix still fits tonality somewhat, but an -ar to -or makes an
ugly-to-pronounce word (puts it in the uncanny valley of word wrongness or
something).

Cool ancient meaning for Notory though!
