Another possibility would be to do things the old-fashioned way: perform a sequence of actions that will produce a known result regardless of whether the messages in question were delivered or not. (Falsifian resigning Prime Minister is an example of this sort of approach.) This used to be the standard approach for dealing with known breakage (with ratification reserved for dealing with situations where we were unsure about whether anything was broken, and if so, what), and it's normally faster than the alternatives. -- ais523
