I'm not sure, but I think no. The phrasing "would be impossible" is a little strange. The word "would" could indicate it's referring to some hypothetical scenario, but I'm not sure what scenario that would be. It might simply be referring to the future, in which case we now know, having experienced that future, that it wasn't a crime.
