For these characters, it displays correctly in html and breaks in text:

That's expected behavior to me.
But for THESE characters, it displays incorrectly in html, but WORKS in
text! That's the part I can't figure out:

(In all cases, I just cut and pasted everything from my email client,
which displays both correctly).
