I take "generally" to mean typical circumstances -- namely, no attempt
by the prospective voter to establish a code with the Assessor. Such a
code was the situation behind CFJs 1260 and 1261, and the contradictory
encoded and decoded meanings led the judge in CFJ 1261 to conclude no
valid vote was cast.
Rule 1950's annotation states:
CFJ 1885 (called 26 Jan 2008): "AGAINT" is a variant spelling of
"AGAINST", not a customary synonym for "FOR", despite its former
private usage with the latter meaning.
While the judge in that case acknowledged that terms can come to have
new meanings through deliberate definition or organic use, e also argued
for a presumption against misleading or contradictory definitions.
The current Assessor has stated e interprets votes of "AGAINT" as
AGAINST [1].
At least one currently active player has stated that e votes AGAINT
"when I care more about referencing that old case than I do about what
vote (if any) is officially recorded" [2]. However, this is a piece of
information e is communicating about eir state of mind, separate from
eir vote. In effect, it is analogous to adding an emoticon after the
usual "FOR" or "AGAINST" vote.
Therefore, based on the prior ruling and the current actual practice, I
judge the statement TRUE.
