When I reported for duty as a student in the Nuclear Training Directorate
at Sandia Base, New Mexico, I was sent to see the neurologist, which I knew
was just a fancy term for "the shrink'. Having seen my shrink father every
day while growing up, I knew what to expect. Sure enough, one of the
initial questions was, "Do you know why you were sent here?"

"It may be because I kept falling asleep in class during the electronics
phase at Redstone Arsenal in Alabama. I graduated as the top student in the
class, but I studied so hard outside of class that I kept falling asleep
during the class." So Dr. Strangelove nods wisely and asks if there are any
other things I would like to talk about.

"Well, when I was a teenager, I did not get along very well with my
father," I responded in sharpshooting mode, that is, trying to appear as
normal as possible.

The U.S. Army had tried to send me to Vietnam after Basic Combat Training
at Fort Lewis, when they read off my name among the names of seventeen
soldiers ordered to report for infantry training. One big husky guy broke
out in tears, but I raised my hand and said, "I signed up for a school." I
had chosen "Nuclear Weapons Electronics Specialist" to keep me out of
Vietnam and to help me in my lifelong AI project in artificial intelligence
-- which is the subject of today's report to the AFC community.

Yesterday in the "scifi" subReddit I posted

[SPS] RoadMap to Artificial General Intelligence

for Self-Promotion Saturday. For several weeks I had been self-promoting my
own AI webpages that had a borrowed cartoon at the top, because Reddit
makes a thumbnail image of the top graphic from submitted link. All I had
to do was update

https://ai.neocities.org/RoadMap.html

with a link to my current campaign of sending Mentifex Autograph Postcards.
But I discovered that the campaign itself was one new stage in the Roadmap!
So I inserted the follow new stage.

[2022-05-23] Mentifex Autograph Authentication -- start of hundreds of
postcards mailed out to autograph collectors to force the issue of whether
the Mentifex Theory of Mind for AI and the implementing software programs
are a real instance of AI being solved and launching the Technological
Singularity.

As of yesterday I have mailed out two hundred twenty (220) of the
postcards, mainly to used bookstores around the USA. It has occurred to me
that, if Mentifex AI finally gets taken seriously and initiates a
Singularity, a wannabe author might write either an interesting book or
even a New Yorker article about the nutcase who postcarded his way to a
Singularity.
