My brother-in-law works for a company that got hit as part of the Microsoft
debacle in Fall of 2021. They had all their systems in place that apparently
only resulted in blocking the notifications that might have warned them that
they were infected BEFORE the ransomware kicked in and actually locked them
down. From what he told me they paid and it still took almost 6 weeks to get
stuff back. I haven’t had a conversation with him about it since (and he’s not
in IT so didn’t know details) so I don’t know if they actually got anything
usable after paying up.

Really sucks…..

Subject: [AFMUG] Paying the ranson

Any of you nerds ever had to pay the ransom on a ransomware?

Are there brokers who handle th negotiation?

This client does not carry the insurance, so there is no insurance resource.

The veem image backups were also encrypted
