Title: Re: [AFMUG] VMWare
Dustin,

What is your thoughts on Hyper-V vs VMWare.  To be honest, I'm more comfortable in a windows environment.  Almost all my VMs are windows OSs at the moment.  I do have a couple of Ubuntu servers running.  Be interested in why you went Hyper-V over VMWare?  I think VMWare has the larger market share.

Hey Mark,

I know we do that with native Hyper-V and it always seem strange to me that if you are running Microsoft VM's you have to purchase Microsoft Datacenter licenses and VMWARE, but I understand some applications are only supported under VMWARE.   That being said we use altaro for unattended backups (Microsoft and Linux) and they have a VMWARE version you might want to check out.

Good Luck,

Dustin

Subject: [AFMUG] VMWare

We  had  a  slight  electric  issue  yesterday.  Messed up some of our
VM  servers.   I  got things rigged back together, but I need to build a more
robust VM system.

I'm  look  to  move  into  the  VMWare  world.  I think Vmware Vsphere
Essentials Plus is the route I need to go.  I may be able to get away
with just Essentials, but the extra tools may help.

Any  thoughts  on  setup.  Currently we run RAID10 on each VM Host and
backup to a NAS.  I'm thinking I'll keep that setup for the VMWare.

If  I  get Essentials Plus will I be able to to HOT backups of running
VMs or is that a third party thing?
