I used Bose ANC headphones while flying. It killed much of everything outside the headphone while leaving you free to hear ATC and intercom. I would think there would be enough external feed/bleed through these would do what you are looking for. They are very effective.

I'm trying to do a sound mix for an external feed while I'm live at a
venue. Getting the exterior mix right is tough since there's so much
bleed from the room sound. Eg, drums and Bass sound so loud in the
house without my amplification, so I always am mixing them low in the
external mix. I don't think 'noise canceling' is the answer, since it
would be trying to cancel out the same sound that I'm actively trying to
listen to. Are there good 'soundproof' monitor headphones? Maybe like
you would use to mow the grass, would they be better? I have a pair of
full over the ear headphones now, but a lot of exterior sound still
comes through them.
