Cutting of the metal tabs with something like an angle grinder with a cut-off wheel in it would probably work pretty well. I think I used a 3" cut-off tool last time, which didn't work too badly. I've tried just bending them out of the way, but that causes problems.
It really annoys me, because all they would've needed to do is shift those tabs over like 1/8" and it would've worked just fine either way. It almost looks like they intentionally designed it to be able to flip over, and then changed it slightly so it couldn't.
