I felt the SN8 flight looked better, but maybe they were trying some new maneuvers. It seemed to me (armchair quarterback that I am), that they made the flip to vertical way too late. The telemetry seems to bear that out; I think they intended to flip at ~~ 1.5 km altitude, but they were well under .25 km when it started.
