I have been known to just clip the pelican clip over a cross member and slide along. Not sure if that is kosher or not. But when I started climbing wood poles 42 years ago, we didn’t even use our strap until we got to the top.

My work lanyards are four feet so I could not traverse it laterally safely...to get other corner...I had to abort and come down...
