Completely unnecessary in my book. One of the best things I have heard a veteran say is "*Thank you for my service*" At first, when I heard that, I thought it sounded arrogant and elitist. I think he meant it the same way as I feel. It was an honor and a privilege to serve and I appreciated the opportunity to not only do it but to get paid to do it.
