Vacuum excavator.  If you don't have one, use a large shop vac.

You guys that live and breath underground.  What's the best way to pump 
water out of handoles?   A little 1/6hp utility pump?  Are there battery 
powered options that are any good?  How do you deal with debris in the 
water in the hole?(Mud/leaves)  Just trying to get them emptied out 
enough to get the locator connected.
