I totally agree. AFAIK, you have no control over the channels and
widths on Google WiFi or Eero or most of the other similar products out
there. I think Orbi gives you some control over the fronthaul but not
backhaul.
It would be nice if the service partner partnership controls let you set
the 5 GHz channels but I’m guessing no.
Big problem for 5 GHz WISP customers. It’s one of the good things about
CBRS.

That might be decent if they let you manually set the channel it uses...

Our criteria is how many customers complain of poor range on the
HAP-AC-lites. I am interested in both frequencies. I have tested
the routers and yes, WiFi performance is marginal at best, and we
have many homes here in NM with adobe walls that just gobble up wifi
signal. I have tested the Audience in terms of range and throughput.
Both are better, but still are lacking for anything over 50mbps TCP.
I would bet that I have not configured the Audience correctly for
max throughput. I have not added any Mesh nodes to it yet. I wish
the UI wasn't so fiddly to work with. The documentation is fiddly as
well...
We have a Calix Gigaspire here for testing as well and it rocks in
all ways. But again, it's hard to give other folks our money if
there is something out there that we can manage and works.

What criteria are you using to evaluate WiFi performance? And
are you interested mainly in 2.4 or 5 GHz performance or both?
Looking at the WiFi chipsets used in various Mikrotik routers,
the highest performance would seem to be the QCA9984 in the
Audience model. High xmt power and 4x4 MIMO. Normally used in
U-NII-3 as the mesh backhaul channel, while the IPQ4019 is used
in U-NII-1 for fronthaul. But as a single router, you could
configure it as tri-band, and the upper band performance with
the QCA9984 would probably be pretty good. I will say that when
used in a mesh configuration, the backhaul channel is very
robust. And that approach does follow what many people
recommend for a mesh or multiple APs - don’t crank up the xmt
power too high on the APs but make the backhaul between them solid.
Bottom line though, WiFi seems like Forrest Gump’s box of
chocolates. And if reality doesn’t agree with theory, reality wins.

We just ordered a couple of the new hAP ac3's to
test - looking forward to seeing how they do. The
external antenna should be helpful.

Sucks for Wifi
We have deploying the hap-ac-lite for over a
year now and love the customization that you
can do with flashing the routers with a
custom configuration, graphing, and all the
other things that Mikrotiks are capable of.
However, the WiFi sucks a big bag of d#$k.
Does anyone have a recommendation in the
Mikrotik world for WiFi that is pretty
affordable that works? I ordered some
HAP-AC2 but haven't received them. Specs
show almost a 7 db gain in 2.4 and 3 db gain
in 5ghz, so maybe that will help out.
We are trying hard not to go the managed
WiFi solution as of yet because handing
money over to someone else to manage
something like WiFi is a bummer.
