Never forget the time when an irate customer (that you all know) called me
fuming because my antenna shorted out his radio.

It was my Optic series. Waveguide interface.
Shorting out the radio. May have ruined a bazillion dollar radio.

I was pretty sure I knew exactly what the problem was, but I played nice and
humored them.

“Sorry about that, did not realize there was any electrical connection between
my antenna and the radio circuitry. Hmmm.
“You sure your grounding and bonding is set up right?

“What kind of idiot do think I am. Of course it is grounded right down in the
basement.
(
IDU – ODU type of radio). Hmmm (I am not going to tell you what kind idiot I
think you are just now).

“Try this: Take the feed horn out and try it. Won’t hurt anything, just less
gain.

Took feedhorn out, antenna still shorting the radio.
“OK so it is not the actual antenna because you just removed the actual antenna.

“OK Try this, just unsnap the radio from the antenna, does the radio work? Yep.

“OK try this, touch any part of the radio that is bare metal to the tower.
Silence.
“What happened?
Silence.
“Are you guys there?
“We will call you back.

They never called back. I had to bug the owner of the company.
They tied the negative of the power supply to ground because everybody knows
that negative is ground and positive is hot!
I still didn’t tell them what kind of idiot I thought they were.
