I think it was the summer between my sophomore and junior year in high school. I think that because I was not old enough to drive. My father or mother would have to drive me over to the mink ranch where I had scored a summer job. Score is probably too strong a word. The work went from 6AM until 6PM; there might have been a lunch break in there somewhere. The pay was $1/hour. It was constant either feeding or watering or cleaning old feed from the tops of the cages or scooping poop from the bottoms of cages. occasionally a clever mink would "break out" and we would give chase for an hour or two. They always came back because the food was pretty good, as far as mink food goes.

3000 mink in 6 long sheds; about 500 mink per shed. One of the hardest jobs I ever had, and the pay was lousy and the benefits were non-existent.

I was certain there was a chinchillamatic skit on SNL years ago but I could not find it for a snappy reply yesterday.  Mmmm mink burgers.
